Usui Reiki Ryoho • Level 1
You don't have to believe in Reiki before learning Reiki.
In fact, I would rather you come curious than convince yourself that you already understand something you haven't experienced yet.
Maybe you've heard about Reiki and wondered:
- “Will I actually feel anything?”
- “Do I need to be sensitive to energy?”
- “Is this really something I can learn?”
Or maybe you're simply curious about what actually happens when you stop hearing other people's descriptions of Reiki and begin experiencing the practice yourself.
Good.
That's an honest place to begin.
Reiki Level 1 isn't asking you to arrive already spiritual, sensitive, or certain.
You're here to learn.
And learning means giving yourself enough room to experience something before deciding what it means.
Multiple schedules available.

Maybe you're curious about Reiki. But you're not completely convinced.
And honestly?
You don't have to be.
A lot of people enter energy practices thinking they need to immediately recognize sensations, see colors, feel vibrations, or somehow prove that something is happening.
Then when nothing dramatic happens, the next thought is:
- “Baka hindi ako sensitive.”
- “Baka hindi para sa akin.”
- Or my favorite...“Baka mali ang ginagawa ko.”
But learning Reiki isn't a competition over who feels the most.
Some people notice something immediately.
Some don't.
Some experiences are subtle enough that you only begin recognizing them after you've practiced consistently.
The point isn't to force yourself to believe.
The point is to learn the practice properly, observe your experience, and develop your understanding from there.
Your questions are allowed to come with you.
The Foundation
Level 1 is not about becoming impressive.
It's about building a foundation.
Before distant work, advanced techniques, professional titles, or trying to become somebody else's healer, there is something much simpler to develop first:
Your own relationship with Reiki.
Level 1 brings you into the foundations of Usui Reiki Ryoho through learning, practice, observation, self-Reiki, basic hands-on application, Reiki principles, awareness, ethics, and responsible practice.
You learn what you are doing.
You practice it.
You observe what actually happens.
And little by little, you begin separating your own experience from expectation, imagination, assumptions, and what somebody on the internet told you Reiki was supposed to feel like.
Because Reiki makes more sense when it becomes something you practice, not just something you believe in.
You are not expected to arrive already knowing.
- You do not need previous Reiki training.
- You do not need to call yourself spiritual.
- You do not need to be naturally sensitive.
- You don't have to see auras.
- You don't have to understand energy work yet.
- And you certainly don't need to pretend that you do.
You may enter Level 1 because you want a personal practice.
You may be exploring Reiki because another modality introduced you to energy work.
Or perhaps Reiki has simply been sitting somewhere in the back of your mind for a while and you're finally ready to investigate it properly.
Whatever brought you here, being a beginner isn't a disadvantage.
It's simply the point where learning begins.
What You Will Learn
What will you actually begin learning?
Reiki Level 1 focuses on the foundations you need before moving into more advanced practice.
- 01
Reiki Foundations
Explore the context, principles, and foundational understanding of Usui Reiki Ryoho.
- 02
Understanding Ki
Begin developing a practical understanding of Ki within Reiki practice, including awareness without immediately assigning meaning to every sensation.
- 03
Reiki Principles
Learn the principles not simply as words to memorize, but as part of the personal practice and discipline behind Reiki.
- 04
Self-Reiki
Develop your own Reiki practice before focusing heavily on working with others.
- 05
Hands-On Practice
Learn foundational hand positions, application, observation, and basic practice.
- 06
Awareness & Sensitivity
Begin noticing subtle experiences while learning not to confuse sensitivity with assumption.
- 07
Attunement
Prepare for and experience Reiki attunement as part of your Level 1 learning process.
- 08
Ethics & Boundaries
Learn why responsibility, consent, scope, and boundaries matter even in spiritual and energy-based practices.
- 09
Foundational Practice With Others
Begin learning how Reiki may be practiced with another person within the appropriate Level 1 scope.
- 10
Integration
Continue practicing, observing, reflecting, and developing familiarity beyond the class itself.
You don't need to master everything immediately.
The goal of Level 1 is foundation.
And a strong foundation gives you somewhere honest to build from.
Reiki becomes clearer when it stops being only an idea.
You can read about Reiki for months.
You can watch other practitioners.
You can listen to someone describe warmth, tingling, movement, relaxation, emotions, imagery, or complete stillness.
But those are their experiences.
Not yours.
Your own experience may be noticeable.
It may be subtle.
It may even feel like nothing significant happened the first few times.
That's okay.
You aren't being trained to manufacture sensations just so you can say Reiki “worked.”
You're learning to observe.
- What did you notice?
- What didn't you notice?
- What changes with practice?
- What stays the same?
- What are you assuming?
- What can you actually recognize from your experience?
This is where sensitivity becomes more useful.
Not when you become more dramatic about what you feel.
But when you become more discerning about it.

Attunement
And yes, there is attunement.
Attunement is an important part of traditional Reiki training.
But you don't need to approach it expecting fireworks.
You are not required to shake, cry, see visions, feel intense energy, or have an extraordinary spiritual experience for your attunement to be meaningful.
Different people experience it differently.
Some experiences are obvious.
Some are quiet.
Some make more sense after continued practice.
We approach attunement as part of your Reiki training, not as a performance you have to succeed at.
There is nothing you need to force.
You participate.
You observe.
And then you practice.

The Learning Journey
You are learning a practice, not collecting information.
There is a difference between knowing about Reiki and actually developing a Reiki practice.
So Level 1 isn't designed around information alone.
- 1
Learn
Understand the foundation.
- 2
Practice
Apply what you are learning.
- 3
Observe
Notice your actual experience.
- 4
Reflect
Question, recognize, and make sense of what you noticed.
- 5
Integrate
Allow the practice to become familiar through repetition.
And then?
You do it again.
Because practice develops through experience.
Not through memorizing enough spiritual words to sound like you already understand everything.
This may be for you if...
- You're completely new to Reiki and don't know where to begin.
- You've been curious about energy work but want something structured.
- You want to learn Reiki primarily for yourself.
- You want proper foundations before considering professional practice.
- You already practice another modality but Reiki itself is new to you.
- You're sensitive to energy but want more structure and discernment around what you're experiencing.
- Or you're skeptical enough to ask questions, but curious enough to explore.
You don't need to decide right now what Reiki will eventually become for you.
Level 1 can simply be Level 1.
Learn first.
Experience it.
Then decide what comes next.
Readiness Assessment
Why is there an assessment before enrollment?
Don't worry.
We're not checking whether you're “spiritual enough.” 😅
The readiness assessment helps us understand where you're starting from, what you're expecting from Reiki, your previous experience if there is any, and whether the current Level 1 setup fits where you are now.
It also gives you a moment to ask yourself a useful question:
“Why do I actually want to learn Reiki?”
There is no perfect spiritual answer to that.
Just be honest.
The assessment is free.

Reika's approach to Reiki education does not require students to abandon questions, critical thinking, or their individual way of understanding experience.
The intention is to preserve the integrity of Reiki while giving students enough structure and openness to develop through actual practice.
You will be encouraged to experience before exaggerating, observe before assuming, and understand the responsibility that comes with practicing something that may later be offered to other people.
Because learning a healing modality should not only teach you what to do.
It should also teach you how to hold responsibility for what you do.
Student Reflections
Not every student experiences the same thing. That is exactly why observation matters.
These are selected lines from students describing what they personally noticed during attunement and practice. They are included as observations, not as instructions for what you should feel.
“Pag-uwi ko galing trabaho, pagod ako. During the attunement, I noticed warmth in my palms, vibration in my body, and a purple aura when I opened my eyes.”
“I noticed a tingling sensation that seemed to move from my head down to my feet, followed by a feeling of light around me.”
“I became emotional during the experience and noticed a part of me trying to protect and steady myself.”
“I noticed tightness around my neck and a light tingling sensation in my body.”
“I noticed warmth around my body. Later, I realized there is still so much more to learn.”
“During the practice, I used a white-light visualization and experienced the attunement in a deeply personal way.”
Personal experiences vary. Sensations, emotions, or imagery are not proof of a promised outcome. Reiki training is not medical or mental-health treatment and does not replace care from a qualified professional.
Your Reiki practice can remain Reiki.
You don't have to study everything.
You don't need to turn one Reiki class into ten different modalities.
Level 1 can stand on its own.
But as your practice develops, you might discover certain areas that you genuinely want to understand further.
Elysians offers separate optional learning subjects such as:
- Sensitivity Development
- Meditation Practice
- Somatic Awareness
- Shadow Work for Practitioners
- Reiki Professional Practice
These are optional subjects.
They are not required just to make your Reiki Level 1 somehow “complete.”
You choose what is relevant to the direction you actually want to develop.
FAQ
Questions you might already be asking
You don't need to know yet where Reiki will take you.
Maybe one day you'll practice professionally.
Maybe Reiki will become something you mostly use for yourself.
Maybe it will complement work you're already doing.
Or perhaps Level 1 will simply answer a question you've carried for a while:
“What is Reiki actually like when I experience it for myself?”
You don't need that answer before you begin.
That's the point.
Come curious.
Come uncertain if that's where you honestly are.
Come willing to learn.
You do not need to perform belief here.
You need enough openness to learn, enough curiosity to practice, and enough honesty to observe your own experience.
Then let experience teach you something.
